Player value

AFITMRR™: seven lenses on player value

Product teams drown in events and still miss value. A daily logger who never deepens skill is not the same as a twice-weekly player who converts friends. Counting sessions alone flattens both into “active.”

AFITMRR™ is Yardstick’s principle set for mapping game events to player-value health — instead of one vanity engagement score. Originated and maintained by Yardstick Games.

LetterPrincipleQuestion it answers
AAttentionDo they show up and focus?
FFrequencyHow often do they return?
IIntensityHow deep is a session when they are here?
TTenureHow long have they been with you?
MMonetaryDo they fund the product fairly?
RReferralDo they bring others?
RResilienceDo they recover after friction or dry spells?

Why one score is not enough

One score hides trade-offs. A whale with low resilience is a churn bomb. A resilient free player may be your best community engine. Separate those stories before you ship the next event.

Event → Principle → Decision

If an event maps to nothing, it is noise — or an unowned product surface.

How to use it this quarter

  1. Inventory top events that matter this quarter.
  2. Map each to principles (be strict).
  3. Weight for your genre and stage.
  4. Score cohorts, not only totals.
  5. Intervene on the weakest principle that still moves retention or revenue.

Deeper map: Truth Mirror and causation. Daily practice: Measure · Retain · Monetise.

Measure the principles, not every pixel. Retain by fixing Attention, Frequency, Intensity, Tenure, Resilience. Monetise when Monetary and Referral sit on a healthy free loop.
