How we work
Grow the game without growing the overhead
Long-lived games need senior product judgment — on the loop, the year, the economy, the live minute. They do not always need another permanent seat on the org chart to get it.
That is the honest case for a limited engagement: people who have shipped many titles, ready to jump into your problem for a focused window — without the full weight of permanent overhead when the heat of that problem has passed.
The overhead trap (without the lecture)
Hiring well is hard. Hiring for a spike — soft launch, a broken season plan, an economy that inflated overnight — and then carrying that cost for years is harder still. Teams know this. They still feel the pressure to “just open a role” because the problem is loud today.
A permanent hire can be exactly right. Sometimes it is the only right move. Sometimes it is theatre: a job description written for last quarter’s fire, filled after the fire has moved on.
We are not anti-hire. We are pro-honest shape. If the work is bounded, the engagement can be bounded too.
What “limited” actually means
Limited is not casual. It is focused.
- A clear problem — not “be our product department forever.”
- A clear window — workshop, short term, fixed term, or a defined arc (see how we engage).
- Lockstep with your goals — not a generic playbook dropped on your roadmap.
- Energy on the work — jump into the mess: numbers, loop, people, decisions this week.
- Something left behind — language, rituals, a plan your team can run — so you are not dependent on a forever retainer for basic hygiene.
That last point matters. Walking in with energy and walking out with empty hands is not partnership. Walking in with humility — it is still your game — and leaving the team sharper is.
Senior craft, without the grandeur
Multi-title experience is useful because patterns repeat: soft currency that feels generous until it isn’t, retention that looks fine until novelty dies, year models that only work with miracles. Experience is not a halo. It is a head start on asking better questions faster — then doing the unglamorous work with your team.
We use public yardsticks where they help — Measure · Retain · Monetise, AFITMRR™ — and free tools when a practice window is enough before you pull us in. The point is not to sound clever. The point is to move the title.
When this shape fits
- You need senior product or live judgment for a launch, re-plan, or soft-launch window — not a three-year org redesign first.
- You want someone who has lived these problems before, without carrying that salary forever if the spike is temporary.
- You are in development, market test, finding fit, or live — and the work is real, not a slide review.
- You care that the team is stronger after, not just that tickets closed while someone sat in the room.
When it does not fit: you need a full-time owner embedded for years with no clear problem boundary. Say that. We will say if we are the wrong shape — or if a hire is the cleaner answer.
How we start (no theatre)
A short note is enough: stage, platforms, what hurts, what good looks like soon. We answer with how we would jump in — not a capabilities deck. Detail lives on how partnership works.
